What is the Difference Between PDF and DOC?

Documents are basically a way of writing, sharing and transferring information from one end to another. In essence, it acts as a record for the type of conversation and legal adaptations for a company or between two individuals. For various companies, document creation and handling are at core of their operations.

Unlike old school days, today there are two popular formats on which all the legal and personal work is done, i.e PDF and DOC. While many people know what they do, not many can distinguish their differences.

PDF or Portable Document Format and Microsoft Word ‘DOC’ are both file formats in which you can save almost anything. There are many documents which need to be sent right away, in those emergency cases, emailing or transferring documents is the easiest way out.

There is inherent difference between the two document types; people handling these documents must be knowing them.

For starters, both the document types are created and designed by different companies, like PDF has been created by Adobe System while DOC is a brainchild of Microsoft. In fact, both the companies have software that can design, create and edit documents in respective to file formats, such as Word for Microsoft and Acrobats for Adobe.

Yet another biggest difference to note is each platform's ability to edit content. Your Word documents or Word DOC can edit, save, share documents easily, whereas documents saved as PDF file cannot be edited, at least not by people like me and you. However, people who want to edit PDF files can go to their word document, make changes and save it again.

PDF were developed as delivery format that can be recognized by every platform. For example, whatever you write on Word DOC is saved in the same font and style you want, however, when you transfer the file to another computer, the font and style changes due to nonavailability on the same font.

Now if we talk about PDF, it keeps your document safe with a limitation of editing the content. It shows you the same font and style of writing as the person has written on their computer. This is a specialty of PDF format.

PDF files are secure and safe documents, and that is why it is used by most of the organizations, companies, colleges and lawyers.

Another big difference between the two formats is when you transfer information through Word DOC the size of the file stays the same. Whereas, file shared through PDF format automatically reduces the size of the file, and transfers it easily.
